Open Mic featuring Well Seasoned: June 15th 7 pm Come early for pizza and stay for our monthly Open Mic. The first hour will feature local artists( be sure to sign up) and then at 8 pm, we will feature Well Seasoned. More info as the date approaches. Suggested donation $5 per person.Well Seasoned is a group of MidCoast musicians dedicated to playing the broad range of American folk music on acoustic instruments. Their repertoire covers an eclectic range of folk and the blues, including Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, Pete Seeger, Gordon Bok, John Prine, Bill Staines, Kate Wolf, Guy Clark, John Gorka and Greg Brown. Among still others, the group draws material from local songwriters Joe Barth, Elmer Beal and Pixie Lauer as well. Currently, Well Seasoned is the foursome Pixie Lauer, Dan Townsend, Del Merritt and Judy Nielsen. Pixie, a singer-songwriter and dedicated “folkie” (Leadbelly is one of her heroes), was formerly with the MidCoast folk group Different Shoes. Dan, long a summer visitor to the MidCoast area, found a musical kinship with Pixie several years ago. Dan is now retired and a Maine resident, so he and Pixie can pursue their shared love of American folk music full time. With the more recent addition of Del Merritt, a tenor who sings with two area choral groups (St. Cecilia Chamber Choir, The Nor’easters) and Judy Nielsen, formerly of Inanna Sisters in Rhythm, Well Seasoned has developed a signature sound that is being heard with increasing frequency in the MidCoast area.
