Indigo & Shibori Natural Dye Workshop with The Natural Dye Company
Kristan has landed in a lot of places — Baltimore, Seattle, Michigan — but it was Maine where she planted something permanent. No matter where she’s wandered, it's the place that will forever have her heart. This summer, she’ll be returning in person to bring her natural dye workshops up the coast of Maine from Portland to Belfast and she couldn't be more excited to share her craft with you in the place that has always felt like home. Join Kristan in The Natural Dye Company's Tour de Maine! This 10-day tour invites Mainers and visitors alike into the slow, mysterious world of natural dyeing, extracting color from plants and flowers to create beautiful textiles.
Indigo & Shibori Workshop
Kristan will be making a stop along the tour at Sheepscot’s General to teach a natural dye workshop about indigo and shibori -— a resist technique that looks similar to tie-dye, but has been around since the 6th century. Using these skills, participants will create beautiful shibori patterns on vintage textiles that will be submerged in a series of dips in the indigo vat, creating a rich, deep blue. Please note: shades of blue will vary. All will have a choice of dyeing 4 vintage napkins, or 2 vintage napkins and 1 vintage flour sack towel to take home.

The Natural Dye Company
Kristan is an unconventional, innovative freelancer who enjoys creating and experimenting with natural botanical dyes. She enjoys seeing what magic and wonder plants hold and how they can transform their aliveness into colorful textiles. Kristan has a degree in Fashion Merchandising Management, is a former art teacher, has owned her own brick and mortar vintage clothing store, and is now the creator and owner of The Natural Dye Co.
